Department of Civil Engineering, N.I.T. Uttarakhand was established in 2013 with an intake of 60 students. Taking advantage of its geographical location, the institute plans to build a systematic and sustainable model for hills development and rehabilitation. The department offers a four-year course leading to a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Department of Civil Engineering has an advanced academic structure with core courses and a variety of elective courses so that the student's knowledge is not only enhanced in core discipline but also in the related disciplines. The department also offers postgraduate courses in Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering along with a Ph.D. degree program in all the specializations of Civil Engineering.

Department has set up various lab facilities to provide students better learning environment. Also continuously organized industrial tours and department seminars make studying at the department of refreshing phase. Department also aims to offer better industrial and commercial solutions to technical organizations by means of testing and consultancy.
