The department offers use of latest technologies like Geographic Information System (GIS),Remote Sensing (RS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) for updating database and also for classifying information related to soil.
Analytical and field level data is tagged is fixed with co-ordinates of the location for spatial representation using GPS.GPS also have application for mapping assets in a watershed and for ground control points collections.The
department has a detailed soil database with special interest lies on land use / land cover change and related ecosystem services.
