1. Activities/Events organized

(A) Awareness Program on Innovation at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal, 12th July 2018.,

An awareness program on Innovation was conducted by the DIC NIT Uttarakhand team, namely, Dr. Pawan Kumar Rakesh, Dr. VikasKukshal, and Dr. Dungali Shree Hari, to the school students of KendriyaVidyalaya, SSB Srinagar Garhwal. A fruitful interaction was made among the school students.They were highly motivated to develop new product and also modification in the existing products.

(B) A five day workshop on “Design Thinking for Innovative Products” (04th-08th March 2019) at NIT Uttarakhand.

Design thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. The experts were invited from the different domains such as understanding scope of innovative product development, design for excellence, role of IPR in product design, brainstorming and hands-on-approach on product design using QFD approach, and marketing of innovative product.

(C) A five day workshop on Understanding Product Design: A hands-on Approach (17th to 21st June 2019) in association with DIC, IIT Roorkee.

The prime objective of the workshop was to contribute in national mission of ensuring maximum reach of design education and practice in the country. The participants did hands- on approach on 3D printing software to understand the product design process, and also to explore their creativity in product design. Participants were introduced with design for manufacturing, product cost, assembly and serviceability. Participants fabricated a prototype model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) software

(D) Awareness Program on Innovation at St. Theresa’s School, Srinagar Garhwal on 29 August 2019

The DIC NIT Uttarakhand team, namely, Dr. Pawan Kumar Rakesh, Dr. VikasKukshal, Dr. Yogesh Kumar Prajapati, and Dr. Dungali Shree Hari, were visited at St. Theresa’s School, Srinagar Garhwal to deliver an expert talk on Innovation in product development. A fruitful discussion/interaction was made among the school students. They were highly motivated to visit at DIC NIT Uttarakhand for the developmentof prototype of the product.

(E) Awareness Program on Innovation at Kendriya Vidyalaya, DAV Public School, Bhagat Ram Modern School, Govt. Girls Inter College, Govt. Inter College, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Masmore Inter College, Pauri Garhwal on 30 August 2019.

An awareness program on startup and Innovation policy was conducted by the DIC NIT Uttarakhand team, namely, Dr. Pawan Kumar Rakesh, Dr. VikasKukshal, Dr. Yogesh Kumar Prajapati, and Dr. Dungali Shree Hari, to the school students. A fruitful interaction was made among the boys/girls student. They were highly motivated to develop new product and ready to do hands-on-training at DIC NIT Uttarakhand.

(F) State level Exhibition cum Innovation Competition on 27th September 2019 at NIT Uttarakhand.

A State level Exhibition cum Innovation Competition was organized for the students of the school on 27th September 2019 at NIT Uttarakhand. Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat (State Minister of Higher education, cooperative (independent charge), protocols and dairy development) were the chief guest of this event. Twenty five students team were participated from the different district in the state level exhibition cum innovation competition

(G) Five day workshop on “3D Printing and Design” sponsored by AICTE Training and Learning program from 16-20 October 2019 at DIC, NIT Uttarakhand.

Five Day All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) Training and Learning Academy (ATAL) Jaipur sponsored workshop was organized by Design Innovation Center, National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand dated from 16th October 2019 to 20th October 2019. Around 54 participants across nation were participated for the same. The inauguration ceremony of workshop was chaired by Prof. ShyamLalSoni, Director, NIT Uttarakhand. Dr. Pawan Kumar Rakesh, Coordinator of this workshop, has delivered welcome address to all the participants and given introduction to importance of 3D Printing and Design for the upliftment of the society.

(H) Motivational talk on “Entrepreneurship skills” by Mr. Abhishek Jain

Mr. Abhishek Jain delivered an inspirational lecture on “Entrepreneurship Skills” at NIT Uttarakhand on 20th October, 2019. He introduced the different aspects of entrepreneurship and emphasized that zeal and great idea are the only ingredients in a recipe for business startup. He mentioned the reason that people do not start their new ventures in a country like India is due to non-awareness amongst the population and decide to go for jobs in private or government sectors so as to minimize the risk. The lecture motivated the students to work hard and start a new venture through adequate forward planning and the execution of the plans. The session also included motivational videos that boosted up the students.

(I) Two Day Workshop on “Importance of Intellectual Property in Academics” held during 25th- 26thNovember, 2019 at NIT Uttarakhand

Dr. Rajat Agarwal conveyed a thorough knowledge about basics of type of patentable research and an outline about how to file patents. In session-1, he explained the importance of IPR in higher education institutions; while in session-2, he illustrated development of IPR, types of IPR, copyrights and related issues along with trademarks, geographical indicators and other intellectual properties. Overall, the two days’ workshop has been immensely productive and advantageous for all the participants.

(J) Five Days Virtual Workshop on Awareness to Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship, (29 January - 02 February 2021) Organized by Research and Consultancy Section, National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, Srinagar (Garhwal), Uttarakhand.

Dr. Hariharan Muthusamy briefed about the global stand of India in innovation and entrepreneurship using Global Innovation Index stats. With his stats and talk, he subtly motivated and laid the background for the talk. The keynote speaker Prof. Narendra S. Chaudhari, Professor (HAG), IIT Indore & Vice Chancellor (on deputation), Uttarakhand Technical University, Uttarakhand, delivered his lecture on “Innovation”. Prof. Narendra S. Chaudhari discussed mainly about these topics: (i) Innovation– Basic Understanding, Types and Techniques. (ii) Creativity – Basic Understanding and Techniques to enhance. The speaker, Mr. Azam Ali Khan CEO, TIDES, IIT Roorkee shared his perspective and insight into Incubation & entrepreneurship: Scope & Opportunities. He emphasizedupon business incubation programs and opportunities sponsored/offered by Technology Innovation & Development of Entrepreneurship Support (TIDES) Business Incubator facilitated at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

(K) A National Hackathon on Medical and Healthcare (TECHNOCARE 2021) being organized by E-CELL, AIC, MUJ and DIC NIT Uttarakhand on February 20, 2021.

TECHNOCARE was jointly organized by E Cell, AIC MUJ and R&C SECTION, NIT Uttarakhand Health problem is an issue that is raising at an alarming rate in India as well as the world Techno care required students to work on overcoming the major problems that are hindering the country’s growth towards becoming a healthier nation. Technocare - a National level hackathon was on 21 and 22nd of January, 2021 to emphasise on advancement in healthcare sector. There were two tracks for 2 different age groups, for which we had 177 participations from different parts of the country. The participants were provided with one-to-one mentorship. With a panel of applauded judges, influential mentors and a hardworking team, Technocare was certainly a big success.

(L) Start-up talk on Entrepreneurship skills by Ishank Joshi

shank Joshi delivered an inspirational lecture on “Entrepreneurship Skills” at NIT Uttarakhand on 22 February. He told that the factor that has contributed to the surge in the demand for organic products is development in e-commerce sector and retail value chains, which serves as a facilitator for the small startups to reach out to their potential consumers. In recent years, a handful number of these ecommerce websites have emerged as fully dedicated platforms to cater these products in the market. The organic sector in India offers numerous doors of opportunities that can be leveraged, hence turning out to be a perfect venture for the budding startups.

(M) Five days online Faculty Development program on Design for excellence: A step towards Innovation, 26-30 September, 2021 at NIT Uttarakhand in collaboration with DIC, IIT Roorkee.

The first session of the five-day Faculty Development Program on 'Design for Excellence: A Step towards Innovation’ was taken by Prof. Gaurav Raheja, Head, Dept. of Architecture and Planning, IIT Roorkee. He delivered a talk on Design Society & Equity: A Design Thinking Approach. His talk started with focus on why? and how? Design matters which then moved to the relationship between the design and society. Prof Vinay Sharma focused on market for product development and laid emphasis on various aspects of marketing and market development. Prof Sonal Atreya introduced ergonomics to the participants of the workshops. On final day Prof. Saptrishi Kolay from department of Architecture and Planning delivered talk on Contemporary Design Language and Lab was conducted by Mr. Rachit Birla, Project Officer DIC IIT Roorkee.

(N) Five-day workshop on “Pragmatic approach toward Innovations in Product Design and Manufacturing” during 04th to 08th July 2022 under the Design Innovation Center, NIT Uttarakhand (spoke) in association with the Design Innovation Center, IIT Roorkee (hub)

An inaugural ceremony of five day workshop on pragmatic approach towards innovation in product design and manufacturing was held on 04 June 2022 at 09:30 am. The venue of the event was Room no. L2-103 of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Block (LHC-II), IIT Roorkee. Prof. Apurbba Kumar Sharma, Chief Guest; Prof. Karun Rawat, Guest of Honor; Prof. Inderdeep Singh, Coordinator DIC and Head of Department of Design; and Prof. Varun Sharma, Course coordinator; Dr. Pawan Kumar Rakesh, Coordinator DIC NIT Uttarakhand, esteemed guests, and participants were present in the inaugural ceremony. A total of 31 participants were participated in this workshop.
