Virasat 2018, March 7, 2018 to March 10, 2018

With reference to letter No.M.11018/06/2016-CDN of Ministry of HRD dated 27.09.2017; National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand conducted some activities under Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Programme during March-April, 2018. This programme aims to actively enhance interaction between people of diverse cultures living in different states and UTs in India, with the objective of promoting greater mutual understanding between the people through exchange of the language, culture, traditions and practices of different states.
To achieve these objectives, NITUK conducted VIRASAT 2018 in association to SPIC MACAY Dehradun during March 7, 2018 to March 10, 2018. This four days programme covered various regional based cultural activities which have been helpful to the students/faculty/staff and their family members in understanding the different languages, culture, traditions and practices of different states. Moreover, it sensitized every student, staff and faculty in “NIT Uttarakhand” to the Indian heritage including Classical Music and Dance, Folk Forms, Art, and Indian Philosophy etc.
The Qawwalis performance of Nizami Bandhu on March 7, 2018 at Auditorium NITUK helped in promoting the Urdu language and Suffi devotional Music and tradition which is most popular in Northern India. They performed their composition enthusiastically including fabulous Urdu Shayari. More than 500 students, faculty and staff members from different States and Culture were mesmerized by their performances.

       

On March 8, 2018, Shri Rajendra Kumar Gangani, a renowned Kathak Dancer and a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award performed the tradition of the Jaipur gharana of Kathak dance. He presented a distinct style of dance by expressing the quiddity of the dance. More than 200 students, staff, faculty members and their family members enjoyed one of the classical dance forms of India which included music and recitation in Hindi or Sanskrit. This dance performance had also represented a unity of core ideas in a diversity of styles, costumes, and expression. It was really a great experience for people of NITUK to understand the ancient culture of India in dance form.

                         

On the last day of event March 10, 2018, the artists from Naya Theatre group of Bhopal presented their award winning play "Charandas Chor". It was based upon a Rajasthani folktale that revolves around the five vows taken by Charan Das who is a thief at the behest of his guru. While refusing to give up thieving he agrees to abstain from five different things, including telling a lie. Apart from the dialogue delivery of the artists, the setup of the play, tribal costumes and the Bhojpuri style language used by the artists were appreciated by the audience. More than 400 students, staff and faculty were got an opportunity to familiar with the culture, language and traditions of India’ s tribal village.

           

Surely, the events conducted during the VIRASAT 2018 at NIT Uttarakhand during 7th -10th March, 2018 have covered the different culture, music, dance, language and traditions of India and would have been able to achieve some of the objectives of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Programme of GoI.
