Community Project Program

NITUK makes an active effort to generate social consciousness among its students and makes every attempt to ensure that they don�t develop technologically deterministic ideas. Thus, from the current semester NITUK has made it mandatory for all students to complete a Community Project before they earn their B.Tech degrees. The Institute has pre-selected a group of 20 villages; Dang, Maletha, Rampur, Ghildiyalgaon, Debli, Naithana, Deoli, Naur, Thapli Cauras, Gorsali, Sankron, Mani, Mangasu, Supana, Sindri, Ranihatt, Dikalgaon, Pokhda, Bhainswada, Manjakor; around Srinagar to implement Community Project Programs like facilitating Video learning in local schools, building mobile science laboratories in rural areas, computer awareness programs, generating environmental awareness programs, garbage recycling, rain water harvesting, initiating of medical camps, women�s empowerment programs, yoga camps, etc. The Institute initiated the Community Project programme on the occasion of �Swachha Bharat Abhiyan� on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti by undertaking Cleanliness Drive at Dang, a nearby village of Srinagar. Students of NIT Uttarakhand actively participated in the cleaning operation and illustrated varied waste management techniques by means of presentations, posters, and holding interactive sessions with the villagers. The students of NIT, UTTARAKHAND also organized a free medical camp in the beautiful village of DEVLI ,located at a distance of 5Km from SRINAGAR. The Motto behind organizing this program was to give free health service(including blood pressure ,weight measurement) to the villagers, identify the health issues prevailing in the village and suggest steps to eradicate them , explain the importance of cleanliness in our life, discourage the use of drugs and alcohol among the community members , encouraging the consumption of nutritious food products and emphasizing the role of personal hygiene in our life. Dr. Vimal Gusain , physician at the BASE HOSPITAL ,SRINAGAR took out some time from his busy schedule to offer service to the villagers. In this camp , general check-up was done and medicine were distributed to the villagers. Around 80 people attended the camp and took advice from doctor. At last, Dr. Vimal gave a seminar on Swine Flu. He talked about the cause of Swine Flu and precaution to be taken against swine flu. Furthermore, the students of the Institute regularly offers JEE Coaching classes for the students of XI and XII classes of various local schools. In such coaching classes the application process to JEE is being discussed upon, physics, chemistry, and mathematics classes are organized, students solve past question papers of JEE, application process to various prestigious engineering colleges are discussed, etc. The coaching classes have gained utmost popularity among the students of local schools around Srinagar. Thus, the Institute strives to make students realize the social repercussions of their actions as engineers and in the process socializing them to be morally responsible citizens.
